3 Easy Ways to Beat the Heat in Rockport

    June 8, 2018

Have you been racking your brain trying to figure out how to stay cool? Well, you’re not alone. Here in Rockport, everyone’s trying to find ways to avoid spending a ton on energy bills while also doing their best not to let the heat in their homes get too high. And it’s a tall task! Often, sacrificing AC usage in the name of saving money means it’s going to be extremely uncomfortable to even sit around at home, and blasting cold air all day comes with a spike in price when the bill comes in the mail each month.

Don’t worry, however. Beating the heat in Rockport doesn’t need to be a difficult task, and the fine folks at Sigwald Service have a list of three quick and simple solutions to the ever-present heat problem here in South Texas. They don’t require significant undertakings – meaning you won’t have to spend an entire day outfitting your home with some special rig – and these changes won’t break the bank, either.

    Adopt the “Texas Cool” Method

It probably goes without saying, since the name of this method is derived from our very state, but the “Texas Cool” method of introducing cool air has proven to be very effective.

    • What you’re going to want to do is open your windows when the outdoor air is cooler, during the mornings and later at night. Use a fan to blow cool air into your home, and you’ll be receiving what amounts to the same effect as using your AC would, but at a fraction of the cost.
    • Once the air changes temperature, shut the windows to prevent hot air from entering while trapping the cool air indoors.

    Stay Hydrated

This one obviously has less to do with cooling the home and focuses instead on your body’s temperature. Regardless of how hot or cool your living space is, keeping your body constantly filled with fluids during the summer is of critical importance.

    • Oftentimes, you’ll become dehydrated well before you’re aware of it. When you realize that you’re thirsty, your body is telling you it’s past time to give it more fluid. Make sure to drink water even when you don’t think you need it, because you don’t want to be caught without any in the event you’re stuck outside when dehydration becomes a serious issue.

    Limit Indoor Light Usage

The residual heat given off by light bulbs and other indoor appliances can add up. During the day especially, try to use natural light as much as possible, but do your best to block the sun from having a direct line of heat to your home – say, through a window.

    • Block-out curtains can help prevent that, as can a variety of high-quality shades and blinds.

These tips barely scratch the surface for all the ways you can be smart about limiting the heat you’re exposed to here in Rockport, but they’ll help nonetheless.
